QUILTY Treasures

QUEENSLAND QUILT SHOW • The 2025 Queensland Quilt Show was held last October at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre. It was a great opportunity to connect with fellow quilters, explore new techniques and celebrate the vibrant Queensland quilting community.

Contemporary Textile Artistry wit h MICHELLE DE GROOT • Michelle designs vibrant, art-inspired quilting patterns that often feature batik fabrics, bold imagery and textile painting techniques. Her work blends traditional quilting with contemporary textile artistry.

QUILT Storage Bag • This handy quilt storage bag is perfect for taking your ‘work in progress’ to any outings or meetings or for storing fabric or anything else you may like to use it for. These instructions also take you through adding the painted leaves and gumnuts.

CURVED Beauty • This beautiful quilt is based on the old Glorified Nine-patch block design, which was generally made by hand and worked with smaller block sizes. In keeping with modern quilt trends, this beauty has been designed on a larger block size and with a white background, creating plenty of negative space to highlight those curves.

The Patchwork Girl • An exhibition featuring Scraps, the Patchwork Girl from L. Frank Baum’s Wizard of Oz book series, was held recently at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. The exhibition’s creator Raquel Caballero is devoted to using craft techniques, including quiltmaking, as the foundation of her artistic practice,.

4/4 Time • This wonderfully scrappy quilt first appeared in Homespun in 2011. It’s built around four-patch blocks joined together to make double four-patch units, that are then sashed and joined to make triple four-patch blocks. That means the quilt has been made as a 4x4x4 pattern, but it incorporates the better-known musical term 4/4 in the name of the project. It’s a terrific opportunity to use bits and pieces from your scrap basket and enjoy the pleasure of combining them to make something quite splendid.

Ecology of Quilts • When the American Folk Art Museum (AFAM) reopened September 26, 2025, following a closure for building construction amid extensive renovations projected through 2028, its inaugural special exhibition explored the natural history of American textiles. That exhibition closed March 1, 2026 and here we share a glimpse of some of the amazing textiles that were on view.

Effort less Feat hers A GUIDE TO QUILTING THE MOST ICONIC DESIGN

Following the Thread with TANIA TANTI • Australian textile artist Tania Tanti creates works that burst with colour, playfulness and emotion. Her art is rooted in an intuitive process — a conversation between fabric, colour and stitch — where instinct and curiosity guide her hand. Each piece becomes a tactile exploration of rhythm, texture and problem-solving. For Tania, stitching is not only an act of making, but also of thinking, feeling, and translating experience into form.

AMONG THE Blooms

QUILTCON • QuiltCon 2025 underscored the diversity of modern quilting – from bold improvisation to delicate handwork, from youth creativity to international collaboration.
