show time • The 2026 Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show (MIFGS) was a celebration of horticultural achievement, showcasing an exciting diversity of garden designs, plant selections, construction ideas and creativity. From habitat gardens to productive patches, creative nooks to calming spaces, formal design to wild meadows... there was endless botanical inspiration for visitors to take home and apply to their own gardens. SMALL GARDENS, BIG VISIONS • The Achievable Gardens design competition, a major drawcard at MIFGS, gives horticulture students a chance to showcase their talents. Their mission? To create a compact 5m x 4m design suitable for a balcony or small courtyard, while working to a budget of $8000 and ensuring at least 50 per cent of the garden is dedicated to plants.

It’s a place for home gardeners to explore and swoon over gorgeous plants and design ideas, and it’s an opportunity for designers to express big-picture concepts and demonstrate innovative thinking.
