EIMA returns • The number of new tractors registered in Italy grew by nearly 44% to 18,500 units during the first nine months of this year compared to the same period of 2020 and strong increases were also recorded for all types of farm machinery. It was with this background that EIMA opened its doors at the Bologna fairgrounds. Some of the major players were missing, and the number of exhibitors was down from the 1,950 at the last event in 2018, to 1,350, but there was still plenty for the 270,700 visitors to enjoy at the first major international farm machinery show in Europe since Agritechnica 2019.

A pleasant surprise • Engine, hydraulics, three point linkage and cab are clearly improved, the transmission is partly better, partly worse, and a few details still need changing. These are the conclusions of the profi test of the new, 70kW/95hp Deutz-Fahr Agrotron 4.95. Words by Manfred Neunaber, pictures by Stefan Tovornik
No gears, but twin turbos • For those not familiar with Deere’s four-pot 6M, there is a quartet of short-wheelbase models, with rated power ranging from 90-120hp. There are also two models with a longer wheelbase, the 6130M and 6140M, and it's the latter that appears here as the subject of our tractor test
Compact farmhands • 6.0m lift height, 2.5t lift capacity. Compact dimensions. Three qualities that make the Faresin, JCB, Kramer, Manitou and Merlo handlers we compare here ideal candidates for those seeking a smaller telescopic
Good hardware, OK-ish software • Want to make the most of your forager’s appetite? Then a four-rotor rake is a necessity. One of the makers vying for your cash is SIP, and we've been using the firm’s 1250/50T to see how it performs in both light and heavy crops
A change of clothes • Originally introduced in Challenger clothing in 2015, the Rogator trailed sprayer had a change of identity two years later, donning the familiar Fendt green and red. We've been operating the 5,500-litre 355 model
A little bit of Jag • Claas has made several updates to its Quadrant 4200, 5200 and 5300 square balers to create the Evolution version. We operated one of the pre-series machines, complete with its intriguing Jag-style pick-up
Precision drilling from a single hopper • A drilling format that is already established around the world is becoming established in Europe as well … precision seed drills with a single, central seed hopper
