Dear reader
Patina, personality and warmth • When Annemieke Broekhuizen van den Berg and her husband, Henk, took over their small workers’ cottage in the Dutch town of Sliedrecht in 2018, it wasn’t love at first sight. The house from 1936 had lost many of its original details and looked much more modern that what the couple was actually searching for. But underneath all the newer layers was plenty of history just waiting to be discovered.
Creating a fall atmosphere in a simple way • When fall arrives, Jo Nad adds the warm colors of nature to her home. Pumpkins in soft color shades, flowers of the season and lots of green twigs create a wonderful backdrop for an evocative interior design style featuring a nice combination of simplicity and creativity.
Golden days and rich flavors • Fall adds a different kind of calmness to the kitchen. Cabbage, zucchini, eggplant and other sturdy vegetables of the season are added to pots and dishes, and we enjoy them in our warm homes as the windy and cold fall takes over our gardens. This time, Rossella uses the fall harvest to prepare a selection of warm and nourishing dishes. These recipes are a homage to basic ingredients and the Italian tradition of creating a rich taste using just a few good-quality ingredients. This kind of food tastes of golden fall days and cozy get-togethers by the table.
THE LAST FLOWERS FROM THE GARDEN IN FALL • We’re giving pride of place to the last flowers from the garden, combining them with things that you’ll usually only find in the kitchen: cabbage, apples, berries, seed heads and herbs that are still standing tall in the kitchen garden. When you combine such things, you’ll create a surprising kind of richness which is both raw and elegant. On the following pages, we’ll show you a few examples.

That was one of the first questions that I asked myself when I got my garden because I was dreaming of filling up my basket with potatoes and root vegetables from my kitchen garden rather than from a supermarket.

BIG, RUSTIC DECORATIVE PLATTER • I’d like to show you how to make a big, rustic platter that you can decorate depending on the season. It looks nice with cones, Christmas bulbs, moss, candles or other natural materials in fall and leading up to Christmas, and in spring, you can use eggs and spring bulbs.
A cozy December IN THE SUMMER COTTAGE • To Tine Gudiksen, Christmas in the most important part of the winter months. This is when the family gathers more often, spends more quality time with each other and fills up the days with candles, glögg and home-baked goods. The most important thing for Tine is for everyone to meet up in one place to relax and enjoy each other’s company – and this place is her summer cottage.
